Home Staging Prepare Your House For Sale

Decluttering Checklist

It’s time to roll up your sleeves and get your house ready for sale. Be prepared for mayhem as you go through every room, scrutinizing every item. Don’t forget your basement, crawlspace and garage.

Make four distinct piles: Trash, Return, Donate, and Might Need.

It would be overwhelming if you tackled the whole house at once. Feel free to expand the list to meet your needs. Delegate the work to other family members accordingly and go at it. Put checkmarks in when done. It’s important to know you’re making progress.

After you've packed, try to store them offsite. This is especially true if you live in a condo where space is at a premium. So rent a commercial storage unit or ask a favour of close friends. They’ll help you out if they know the arrangement is temporary.
Kitchen: ensure major appliances work flawlessly, even if they aren’t included in the price. Replace burned-out bulbs in the refrigerator and oven. The refrigerator should be free of odors.
Living Room/Family Room/Great Room: put away game consoles when done playing. No dangling cords for buyers to trip over.
It is a plus when your house has a den on the main floor. Most buyers want an office space where they can set up their home computer. The trend today is toward more telecommuting, so not surprisingly the den adds a lot of value to your house. This room needs to be bright and highly organized.
