The other reason to de-personalize has to do with safety. Buyers rummaging through your house are strangers and it would be better if they don’t know who lives there, or have access to any other personal data.
Landscaping: weed out your lawn and re-seed damaged spots.
Remove fingerprints and smudges on the walls, switch plates and from around door handles. Flat-mop walls when necessary.
Kitchen: consider collapsing the leaves or removing an insert from the table to create floor space. Putting away unused chairs will also help.
Pets: It may not be to your liking but pets distract in many different ways. They smell for one thing. Some buyers are allergic to them. Others are afraid of them. It’s worse when they are noisy (like barking or meowing) or being overly friendly (like jumping on your buyers). You should never let aggressive pets anywhere near your buyers.
